National Cheesecake Day is the creamiest and most delicious holiday celebrated on July 30 when America savors and enjoys some of the most delicious cheesecakes ever!
Different cheeses and cakes are liked all over the world. But taken together, they attract a real cult following. Cheesecake is believed to have originated in ancient Greece, as evidenced by its earliest mention in a book by the Greek physician Ejima on the art of cheesecake making. Since then, cheesecake has been passed down from generation to generation and has become part of the fabric of many cultures.
History of National Cheesecake Day
Oddly enough, the origin of cheesecake is unknown to us, but it can be traced back to ancient Greece. The recipe used then included only the most basic ingredients such as cheese, flour and honey. Interestingly, during the Olympics in 776 BC, Greek athletes were fed cheesecakes. It wasn\’t until the Romans conquered ancient Greece that eggs and proper baking techniques were introduced.
The recipe has been modified several times over the years to achieve the perfect balance of smooth and creamy consistency, and this has led us to the American cheesecake we all know and love! In 1872, New York milkman William Lawrence inadvertently came up with cream cheese while trying to replicate a French cheese called Neuchâté. Talk about luck, right! Cream cheese became so popular and so high in demand that it was packaged and distributed to all the local stores in the area.
As time went on, an immigrant from Germany named Arnold Reuben, who lived in New York, was once treated to a cheese pie at an event. He was so fascinated and curious by the dessert that he decided to experiment with the recipe until he came to know it as today\’s New York cheesecake.
The popularity of New York cheesecake has grown so much that different cities have their own versions, for example, Chicago cheesecake, Pennsylvania cheesecake, etc. It has become such an important part of American culture that in 1985 it was decided that there would be a national day. It is celebrated every year on 30th July. Cheesecake.
