Most countries celebrate International Friendship Day on 30 July. The day was first proposed in 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organization that campaigns to promote a culture of peace through the promotion of friendship.
The United Nations General Assembly officially adopted International Day of Friendship in 2011.
Some countries including India celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of every August. This year this day will be celebrated on 7th August 2022.

Winnie the Pooh was later appointed UN Friendship Ambassador in 1988. In the 65th session of the United Nations held in 2011, 30 July was officially celebrated as International Day of Friendship.
