The Aomori Nebuta Festival is held in Aomori Prefecture, Tohoku Region. It lasts for 6 days from 2 to 7 August each year. The roots of the Aomori Nebuta festival date back to the early 1700s. It is said to have started with walking and dancing with lanterns to mimic the Naputa Hirosaki celebration.
Later, from the late 1800s, it was transformed into a float festival with large puppets called Nebuta and Haneto, performing jumping and dancing.
Today it is a popular festival that attracts around 3 million tourists from across the country and abroad.

However, since Haneto costumes must be worn, be sure to check with the costume rental store and clothing store in advance. Costume rental costs about 4,000 yen.
