The messaging platform owned by Meta said that it had banned these WhatsApp accounts under the new IT rules, 2021. Well, this is not the first time that WhatsApp has banned a WhatsApp account. The company has done this many times before. “Over the years we have invested heavily in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies,” WhatsApp said in a statement. In addition, our data scientists and experts are constantly engaged in securing the users on our platform. Under the new IT regulations, all digital platforms with more than 5 million users are required to publish a compliance report every month. Along with this, details of complaints received from consumers will have to be given.
According to the company, anyone who shares illegal, obscene, abusive, threatening, intimidating, hateful or provocative content on their WhatsApp is banned from their account. Also, if a user violates the company’s terms and conditions, then his account can be banned.
16.6 lakh accounts blocked in April
Earlier in April, WhatsApp blocked the accounts of 16.6 lakh Indians. The company said in a statement that it received 528 complaints in May and 24 of them were acted upon. In addition, in April, WhatsApp received 844 complaints reports, out of which 123 cases were acted upon. Also in March, the platform banned over 1.8 million such accounts in the country. In March, WhatsApp received 597 complaints and the company processed 74 accounts.
