The country\’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India (Maruti Suzuki India) has entered the mid-size SUV segment with its new car Grand Vitara. Pre-bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have started at Rs 11,000 and the company expects it to replace the S-Cross in the lineup. Prices of the Grand Vitara are expected to be revealed in August.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 2022 will be the first car in its segment to come with a self-charging electric hybrid variant. Maruti Suzuki Electric Hybrid Technology will share the cleaner powertrain with Toyota, which earlier introduced the Urban Cruiser Hyder SUV with similar technology. The car will compete with SUVs like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Aster, Tata Harrier in its segment in the Indian market.

Based on the Global C platform
The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV shares most of its components with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider, which was introduced recently. Both SUVs are based on Suzuki\’s Global C platform, which is also used in the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and S-Cross. The engine, gearbox and other components will also be shared between the two SUVs. This helps in saving research and development cost.

The new Grand Vitara gets a sleek and muscular design. The large front grille and square wheel arches give the new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara a modern yet attractive look. The front has a split headlamp design. The 2022 Grand Vitara gets projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, plastic body cladding, 17-inch wheels and more. At the rear, there are sleek LED tail lamps. Maruti Suzuki will offer the Grand Vitara in 6 monotone colors and 3 dual tone colors.

Engine and mileage
Maruti Suzuki will offer the Grand Vitara in two engine options. There is a 1.5 liter mild hybrid engine which is seen in other Maruti Suzuki cars. While the other is a new 1.5-liter strong hybrid engine developed in collaboration with Toyota. The mild hybrid engine produces 100 PS of power and 135 Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It claims a mileage of 21.11 kmpl. The powerful hybrid engine produces a maximum power of 115 PS and will be mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission only. Maruti Suzuki claims that it will deliver the highest mileage in its segment at 27.97 kmpl.
All-Grip All-Wheel Drive Technology
The new Vitara will be available with Suzuki\’s All-Grip AWD (AWD) system, which will automatically transfer torque to the rear wheels when slip is detected. Also, the AWD option makes it the only other SUV in the mid-size segment apart from the Toyota Hyrider to get the AWD feature. The All-Grip system has four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Lock. Lock mode keeps the front and rear axles engaged at all times.
Interior and features
Talking about the interior of the SUV, it is done in a dual tone theme of black and brown. The seats are designed in faux black leather with champagne gold accents on the Strong Hybrid variant, while the Smart Hybrid variant will get silver accents. The Grand Vitara is Maruti Suzuki\’s first vehicle to be offered with an elegant sunroof. It also comes with a head-up display, wireless charger, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree parking camera and connected car technology. Other features include ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, keyless entry, rear AC vent, a push button to start/stop the engine and a USB port. There is also a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Maruti Suzuki has further enhanced its safety features with the recently launched Brezza. The automaker has implemented it in the new Grand Vitara. Maruti offers the new Grand Vitara SUV with EBD with ABS with 6 airbags, ESC, cruise control, hill climb and descent control, 360 degree camera, reverse parking camera, ISO fix child seat.
