Controversy

In 2019, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch busted a sex-trafficking operation in Vile Parle (East). The operation was at the Thai Villa Authentic Spa, a massage centre located in Rishi Building on Dixit Road in the posh Vile Parle (East) area. Launched in 2018 by Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, the spa is owned by Shura Khan and Sumit Singhania of Shura Leisure Pvt Ltd. Allegations have surfaced that the spa owner and manager are engaged in prostitution under the guise of providing Thai massage services.

Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch IX raided the resort. Six Thai women were rescued during the operation. Following the rescue, the manager and owner of the spa were arrested and taken into custody at the Vile Parle police station.

During the raid, officials seized various items from the spa, including cash, vending machines, condoms, laptops, voucher books and other documents, the official said. The six rescued women, all of whom had tourist visas without work permits, were handed over to the Vale Parle police for further investigation. After investigation it was decided that they would be deported through the Thai consulate.

The spa’s managers, Shura Khan and Sumit Singhania, were charged with the offence of human trafficking under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Obscene Trafficking Act.
