According to religious scriptures, Sri Krishna was born in Mathura on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month. According to the legend, Kasam usurped the throne of his father Ugarsena king and imprisoned him and declared himself the king of Mathura. Kansa had a sister named Devaki. He was very fond of Devaki. Kasam gets Devaki married to Vasudev. But when he was sending Devaki away, there was a celestial that Devaki\’s eighth son would kill Kansa. Hearing Akashvani, he got scared and imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva. After this cruel Kansa killed 7 children of Devaki and Vasudeva. But when Devaki\’s eighth child was about to be born, lightning flashed in the sky. At 12 midnight all the locks of the jail broke automatically and all the soldiers guarding there fell into a deep sleep. And they all fell asleep. It is said that at that time Lord Vishnu appeared and told Vasudeva-Devaki that he would be born from Devaki\’s womb. After this he asked her to release him, that is, to bring her avatar with Nanda Baba in Gokul and the girl born in her house to Mathura and hand her over to Kansa. After this Vasudeva did as the Lord said. He left Kanha with Nanda Baba and handed over the girl brought from Gokul to Kansa. Nanda and Yashoda nurtured Sri Krishna and Sri Krishna killed Kansa.
